Wildcat Wrestling Update #8

Practice Monday at 1:00 pm – With no school tomorrow, practice will be at 1:00 pm.

Recent Results – A tough 24 -41 loss to Aloha on Thursday night.  Our team continues to grow and compete as we progress into the season.

Mission San Jose Tournament on Feb 6 & 7 – Some early info for this tournament since it includes out of state traveling.  This is a huge and extremely tough individual bracket tournament.  Coach Delaney and his staff have specific criteria for which wrestlers will go, he will communicate that directly to the wrestlers.  The wrestlers going will be flying down on Thursday, 2/5, staying in a hotel and returning on Sunday, 2/8. Coach is still working out details and reservations and cost for the wrestlers.  As details get secure, information will be shared out directly to the wrestlers going.

Awards Banquet – Anyone interested in organizing our end of year awards banquet at the end of the year, please let me know.

Freshman/Novice Tournament, Wednesday 1/28 – The freshman/novice tournament at Southridge High School on Wednesday, 1/28, starting at 6:00 pm.  Wrestlers will stay after school and take the bus to the tourney.  Wrestlers should either bring food/drink for the evening to school with them or their family can bring their wrestler food at the event. These events usually last anywhere from 2-3 hours then will bus back to Westview.

Dual Meet Thursday vs Century at Westview High School – This week’s dual meet is Thursday, 1/29.  JV Wrestling starts at 6:00 pm with Varsity Wrestling starting at 7:00 pm.  The head to head dual meets are one of the most exciting competitions during the wrestling season.  For varsity matches, the lights go out and spotlights come on with the whole gym focused in on one match and watching the team scores build.

Hood River “Elks” Memorial Tournament on Saturday, 1/31, at Hood River Valley High School – Wrestling begins at 9:00 am.  Map link is here:  Hood River Valley High School Wrestlers should arrive at Westview at 5:30 am to board their bus for leaving at 6:00 am.  Additional info on the tournament follows:

  • Tournament Format – Varsity and JV, and Girls will all have separate tournaments.  The Varsity will be a 16 man bracketed tournament (with seeding). The girls will have 4 to 8 person brackets.  The JV will be put into a 4 person group (closest weights) and then will wrestle in a round robin.  Varsity will wrestle on 5 mats and JV will wrestle on 3 mats in the wrestling room.  Freshman are welcome to come.
  • Awards – Trucks for 1st place, medals for 2nd and 3rd place. JV champions will be awarded their bracket. Team trophies will be awarded for the top three Varsity teams.
