Wildcat Wrestling Update #5

Greetings Westview Wrestling Families –

A Note From Coach Delaney

“I hope everyone had a nice holiday and enjoyed some down time with family.  Our coaching staff wants to thank all the parents and wrestlers for their volunteer work to help us run the Northwest Duals Tournament last weekend.  With your volunteer help it allows our wrestling program to purchase our uniforms/equipment, pay our tournament entry fees and our travel to and from events.  We look forward to seeing you guys at the matches as we start the second half of our season this week.  Thanks again for all your support of our program.”

– Coach Delaney

Recent Results – Way to go wrestlers and coaches on a great performance at the NW Duals!  We finished the tourney 4-4 overall.  One highlight of the tourney was a nail biter finish against Tualatin that ended in a tie, and went to the fifth tie-breaker criteria to give the win to Tualatin.   Also way to go on our double dual two weeks ago against Forest Grove and Hilhi.  We earned a 57-27 win over Forest Grove and had a solid showing in a 27-43 loss to Hillsboro.  A great Valley Times article about the dual match is here: Wildcat wrestling hangs with Hillsboro

Thank You Volunteers! – A huge thank you to the many volunteers that gave up time and  energy to helping run the concession stand!  This is an important part of the tournament that earns important funds to support our wrestling program as Coach Delaney noted.  Thank you to: Carolyn Yancey, Ken and Tiffany Frank, Giselle Escobar, Nushi Bebehani, , Tracy and Sierra Compton, Gloria and Jordan Zabel, Dean Durfee, Ilse and David Kamin, Holly and Reilly Resnick, Tami and Josh Hirning and Anastasia, Stephanie and Allie Timmons, Jack Bevens, Yixiang Zeng, and April Edwards!  If I missed your name please let me know.

Wrestling 101 for Parents? – Last chance to express interest and see if we have enough folks interested:  Don’t know the difference between a take down and reversal?  Wondering what a fall is? The difference between a 2pt near fall and a 3 pt near fall?  Are you interested in becoming a more informed fan so you know what the referee is calling? With so many families that are new to wrestling we are wondering how many of you would be interested in session after practice some evening.  Coach Delaney volunteered to be an instructor for the class.    We don’t have any details worked out, but wanted to first see if there is enough interest.  If you are interested in a weekday evening session at approximately 5:30, please respond to me.

Competitions this week:  We have a busy week! Full competition and practice schedule is on our website.
