Greetings Westview Wrestling Families –

Great Job this last week at our double dual versus the California teams.  We beat Oakmont 37-34 and lost to Granite Bay 30-46.  Our wrestlers had a great experience competing against wrestlers from another state.

Our wrestlers also had a very solid showing at the Rose City Championships with our team taking 8th place out of the 18 teams that came.  Our placers included Eli Hirning 1st place at 220 lbs, Joel Timmons 2nd place at 120 lbs, Kiel Resnick 3rd place at 106 lbs, and two 4th place finishers including Jimmy Zeng at 126 lbs and David Escobar at 132 lbs.  Complete results for each wrestler can be found here: Rose City Championships Results.   The tournament was an overall huge success as it was very well organized.  Many coaches, officials, and fans were commenting on how well the tournament went, with the out of state teams all reporting that they plan to return next year!  Congratulations to the Wildcat Wrestlers and Coaches!  Another great article by Miles Vance, this one about the Rose City (a couple of mistakes naming David Escobar and Kiel Resnick in different schools:  Rose City Article

Thank You Volunteers! – A huge thank you to the many volunteers that gave up time and energy to helping run the concession stand!  This is an important part of the tournament that earns important funds to support our wrestling program.  Thank you to: Christina Matousek, Doug Thomas, Carolyn Yancey, Ken and Tiffany Frank, Katherine Layman, Giselle Escobar, Nushi Bebehani, Matt Chalut, Pep Timmons, Tracy Compton, Dean and Stephanie Durfee, Ilse and David Kamin, Tim and Sue Schubert, Holly and Reily Resnick, Tami Hirning, Yixiang Zeng, April Edwards and Rona Friesen!  If I missed your name please let me know.

Volunteers Needed for Northwest Duals Tourney! – Friday December 27th and Saturday December 28th, Westview is hosting the Northwest Duals tournament.  Attached is a list of volunteer signup/needs we have to help with the concession stand.  If you can fill one of the open spots please email me back.  We need three people per session.  Get your family together to take a whole shift and have some fun together.  We always pay attention to covering for each other when your wrestler is competing.

Wrestling 101 for Parents? – Don’t know the difference between a take down and reversal?  Wondering what a fall is? The difference between a 2pt near fall and a 3 pt near fall?  Are you interested in becoming a more informed fan so you know what the referee is calling? With so many families that are new to wrestling we are wondering how many of you would be interested in session after practice some evening.  Coach Delaney volunteered to be an instructor for the class.    We don’t have any details worked out, but wanted to first see if there is enough interest.  If you are interested in a weekday evening session at approximately 5:30, please respond to me.

Competitions this week:  We have a very busy week! Full competition and practice schedule is on our website.

Double Dual Meet Wednesday 12/18 at Westview 5:00pm – This was originally on the Calendar for Thursday, but it is this Wednesday.  Varsity and JV wrestlers will be competing in a Double dual meet vs Hillsboro and Forest Grove.  This is our first regional competition that counts towards seeding in our regional tournament.  The first dual will start at 5:00 pm with the second directly following.  The double dual will take place at Westview High School.

Freshman/Novice Tournament The freshman/novice tournament is at Oregon City High School on Thursday, 12/19, starting at 5:00pm.  Wrestlers will stay after school and take the bus to the tourney.  Wrestlers should either bring food/drink for the evening to school with them or their family can bring their wrestler food at the event. These events usually last anywhere from 2-3 hours then will bus back to Westview.

Go Cats!!!!
